One-component or two-component?
Choosing a water-based adhesive for footwear starts with both materials in the joint and your assembly process. SQ-72 and SQ-78 are water-based polyurethane adhesives for sole assembly and forming-related bonding applications. Their component systems differ, so request grade-specific preparation and trial guidance before replacing your current adhesive.

Describe the bond you need
A useful adhesive trial starts with both sides of the joint, not just the shoe component name.
- Materials: the two surfaces being bonded, including finishes or coatings.
- Assembly: cleaning and treatment steps, application method, drying and pressing equipment.
- Requirement: your current bonding problem and the test method or acceptance criteria.

Confirm the complete joint before switching products. A successful trial for fabric lamination does not establish performance for sole assembly.

Are SQ-72 and SQ-78 interchangeable?
No. SQ-72 is a two-component product and SQ-78 is a one-component product. Their application instructions and component requirements must remain separate.

Does water-based mean I can skip drying or surface preparation?
No. Confirm preparation, drying and assembly instructions for the selected grade and both materials. Obtain the current technical data sheet before setting production conditions.

Plan a water-based polyurethane adhesive trial
A switch to water-based PU adhesive should be evaluated on the actual footwear construction and available production equipment. Use the SQ-72, SQ-78 or separate SQ-77 application route above rather than substituting grades by name alone.
Keep the existing approved process as a comparison where available. Record both materials, surface preparation, drying and pressing conditions, and the agreed bond test. Request current grade-specific instructions before setting a production trial; this page does not prescribe universal temperatures, ratios or drying times.
